The City of Taft uses the council-manager form of government and is served by the mayor and four council members. The city council is the governing body of the city, elected by the public, and the city manager is hired by the council to carry out the policies it establishes.
The city council holds regular meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 P.M. Unless otherwise noted, meetings take place at City Hall, located at 230 Green Avenue. Public participation is encouraged.
